So today is the last day of the month and it is already feeling quite autumnal! Woops, Andy and Dave got caught out in the heavy downpour of rain yesterday. They went to move some sold narrowboats out of the sales basin yesterday to get them ready for their new owners. When they left the office it was beautifully sunny and warm, so they didn't bother with any coats or fleeces, big mistake! by the time they had cruised into the middle of the marina the heavens had opened and they were two very soggie boys! As you may already know. Whilton Marina Ltd purchased Venetian Marina at the end of 2011. Since purchasing the marina we have wanted to invest in the marina's infrastructure. This week the ground work has started on site to remove the old dilapidated piers and replace them with new piers and updated amenities. Over the next two years, the company plans to improve the marina infrastructure by fitting new piers, repiling the water’s edge, electric to all piers, a new water system and wi-fi access to mooring customers. The work on the piers at Venetian Marina is due to start at the beginning of April 2011 and will take around four months to complete. We currently have 102 narrowboat at whilton Marina either for sale or going through the sales process! 16 of these canal boats are at Wigrams Turn Marina and a couple are on their way here. Never the less it is still a lot of narrowboats!

Whilton Marina is open 7 days a week from 9am till 6pm in the summer and 9am till 5pm in the winter. We don't even close for lunch! Not only that, we are open all bank holidays (except Christmas and Boxing Day) and close over the Christmas period. So if you are looking for a new or used narrowboat why not come and see us this bank holiday weekend either at Whilton Marina or at Wigrams Turn Marina!

Today Whilton Marina was one of the cryptic answers to the Treasure Quest featured on BBC radio Northamptons 9am till 12pm show. Henry Grantham was lock keeper at Whilton Locks, on the Grand Union Canal for 40 years. Always with a pipe in his mouth and with his sole companion at his side Rex, a cream Alsation dog. We cruised to the Cropredy Music Festival last month, the South Oxford is mainly a contour canal and is outstandingly beautiful if a little shallow in places. Cropredy is a really attractive village, each August, Fairport Convention stage a Music festival. This year there were about 16,000 visitors, the atmosphere (despite the rain) was excellent. the whole village appears to get involved in oneway or another and we felt really welcome. I have just been on to the marina to put a new Boat Safety Certificate on to a boat that a customer has just purchased from us, for the record I am not a boat safety examiner it was just the certificate itself I was putting on the boat.
