What Our Customers Say about their experience of Buying A Narrowboat From Whilton Marina
We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, and always do our best help our customers have a positive experience when buying a narrowboat through our brokerage services. So it is always lovely when our customers write in to thank us. Below are some customer testimonials that we have received since 2011. We will keep adding more as we get them.
June 2020 - Google review from Jack Renders who purchased his first narrowboat from us:
"If you are looking to buy a narrowboat - buy it from Whilton Marina! Rob has been fantastic throughout the whole process and exactly who you want to buy your first boat from. They have been honest, friendly and not all pushy. Any questions we had were answered very promptly. Thank you! The boat had been surveyed and blacked a few weeks before at the marina - two things you usually have to pay for and arrange at your own expense with a private purchase. The chandlery on site were also very helpful- making sure we had all the right kit and fuel before setting off (as well as the fridge well stocked with beer) We had a beautiful trip down taking the boat back to the smoke - it took 7 days but we were starting at 8am and finishing at 6pm without stopping for breaks. In hindsight, allowing 10-12 days would have been a bit more relaxing. The Grand Union Canal and the Midlands is beautiful and I never knew it existed. I would love to return one day (hopefully working remotely) as well as explore the rest of the UK canal network! Thank you Rob and everyone at Whilton Marina.
March 2020 - Our lovely customers Brian and Denise have created a YouTube VLOG on their recent purchase of narrowboat Pastorale from Whilton Marina, check out their latest video below:
6th March 2020 - Google Review from Pol Little who purchased a narrowboat from Whilton Marina.
"What a great experience buying this boat has been. Everyone concerned including the shop giving us information has been super helpful, and other outside enquiries about boat related things. Speak very highly of Whilton Marina. What a pleasure and they are very obliging too."
9th February 2020 - Google Review from Neil Collinson who purchased his first narrowboat called 'Huami' from Whilton Marina:
"Whilton Marina an unbelievable experience. I was not back in the UK yet so I subscribed to a few marinas in the hope of finding a boat and immediately I was impressed by the variety and selection of boats at Whilton Marina. On arriving back in the UK, I decided to go and take a look as their policy is to allow you to take three keys and to go and look at the boats on your own. No sales pressure of someone walking around with you, yet after looking around they were available to ask each and every question that I had and I also appreciated their unbiased advice. I felt very welcome from my first meeting with Whilton Marina and being a complete “newbie”, I was able to ask and get answered all the questions that I had prepared. My first 3 viewings were not exactly what I was looking for but I was advised to go and take a look at another boat who they had known from new, so after a complimentary coffee and a bacon sandwich at their cafe (very nice!), I went to see the boat and within minutes I had decided it was the boat for me. I confirmed my interest and after paying a deposit the boat (my boat!) was taken off the market. I was advised about a survey, blacking and acquiring a safety certificate and Whilton offered to do these at their expense which was very much appreciated. I am now “on board” and am very pleased with my new boat “huami” and I continue to be amazed at the after sales service that Whilton offer. The highest recommendation I have ever given. Thank you. Neil Collinson"

28th November 2019 -Google Review from Roy King
'Being a complete novice I really appreciated the support fromthe guys at Whilton in finding the right boat for me, the ease of the purchase process and subsequent support in getting to grips with my boat, transporting it to my new marina, advice on important aspects of living on the water and subsequent sale back to Whilton. All was made extremely easy from start to finish and everybody I spoke to there, without exception, could not have done anymore to have made it a wonderful experience. Fully recommend this marina for anything from boat purchase and sale to full support and advice' Roy King

'We can't praise the staff at Whilton enough - We got plenty of hassle free viewing and advice before we bought our first narrowboat and that continued after the sale with hints, tips & technical help. Nothing was too much trouble for the sales team or workshop guys - particular thanks to Harvey, Andy, Steve, Chris & Sam. Also a thanks to the Chandlery staff, all in the cafe and the residents who all made the beginning of our adventure a little easier and stress free. Highly Recommended!'
September 2019 - Google Review from Jan Reap
'Absolutely superb, the best buying experience and after care I'ce experienced ever, our sale was handled by Jon who was impeccable, as are all the sales staff, everything was explained in detail, in terms we could understand being newbies to life on the cut, and still to this day six months after the sale, they continue to help and guide us, if you are new to narrow boats, this is the place to go, take their advice, you won't get better guidance anywhere from finance to navigating your new boat, these guys so it all, buying a narrow boat is a considerable purchase you need to get it right first time, be assured you're in good hands here.'

Nothing has been too much trouble, customer service in this day and age it is good to see, thanks Andy you are a star.'
29th July 2019 - Facebook review from Lauren Katie
'A big thank you to John and the rest of the Whilton team who helped make our first boat sale a dream!
When we found out that by buying our boat through them meant any work that needed to be completed to make it insurable would be covered by them at no extra cost, this made us feel confident to know our purchase would be safe.
They ended up rewiring the boat for us and carried out lots of other works including organising with the gas man to catch up with us so that we could get going with our journey back to London.
They made a quick turn around with everything and we’re really happy with our buy and the follow up service we are receiving. Any query we have they are quick to pick up the phone and make sure we know what we are doing.
If you are like us and need some help with purchasing your first live abroad I would definitely recommend! X'

The service and hospitality we have received has been second to none.
In a world full of automated replies, outsourced customer service, and mediocrity being ok...its an absolute delight to deal with a company that still take pride in what they do.

24th Febuary 2017 - Whilton couldn’t do enough to make our dream a reality
A blog Review from the owners of Fantine.
See review below or follow Fantines blog
'Now that everything is final we thought it was high time we did a write up on all the wonderful people who helped us on the journey to buying our boat.
The Three Angels That Made our Narrow Home Possible (Kind of)
So throughout our posts we let you know we were buying our boat through a Brokerage. That brokerage was Whilton Marina, and honestly they were great. The first time we went they allowed us to take the keys to of many of the boats as we wanted, which paid dividends in helping us to determine what we did and didn’t want. When our lovely Narrow Home found us Jon (Disclaimer: Despite being an Angel he does not resemble any of the above) at Whilton couldn’t do enough to make our dream a reality.
The process with them was super simple, even though we brought through finance which does make things slightly more complex. When we expressed an interest in our boat they talked us through everything.
So as we were looking to buy through finance the first step was to secure our loan in principle, to ensure that, should the mighty boat buying gods be with us, we would be able to complete. Keep your eyes peeled for Charlie’s Angel 2!
Once this is in place the offering process started and James got his best wheeler dealer on.
Woohoo offer accepted now time to place the deposit.
Now we would like to delve a bit more into this deposit malarkey. Obviously being the sensible grown ups that we are, we did a bit of research into Whilton before going any further with the purchase. Like all mature adults we took to Facebook and looked at their reviews. It seemed a lot of these reviews focused on the deposit negatively, alarm bells right? Well no not really. Of course we can only go on our experience here but the Deposit secures the boat for you, if you then decide to pull out cause actually you can’t stand the colour of the walls then you loose that. Basically if you pull out for any reason, other than a problem in the safety or insurance of the vessel you loose your money. At no time was this not made clear to us. That’s how a deposit should work, in our eyes from the minute that deposit hit their bank account no other living soul was allowed to view our boat with a view to buy her, if we had then decided to pull out, the brokerage and the vendor would have missed all that potential foot fall for the boat and the selling process is only lengthened. As such this seemed completely fair and knowing that we had found our one we proceeded. Back to the step by step guide…
Arranging your boat survey, we quickly found who we wanted to use for our survey. Handily Whilton provide you with a list of companies they regularly use. This was booked in for the following week, easy peasy.
A couple of very minor items came up on the survey which affected the issuing of the boat safety certificate … cue Angel 1 (Jon) … Whilton then went back to the vendor to advise them of what had come up, and renegotiated the price to reflect the cost of the essential repairs. Meaning that you never pay more than the offer price that is accepted!
We then paid the remaining part of our deposit and got our insurance in place.
Completion of the final loan documents and then the balance was transferred to Whilton Marina.
Meaning we are now Narrow Home Owners! We still can’t quite believe it. So we are currently waiting on the few final repairs to be made, but the transfer has meant we have time to get aboard and prep for the move aboard.
Writing the steps down like that makes what was in total a 6 week process seem a breeze, which once you get round the paperwork and the realisation that in the canal world, everything proceeds at 4mph, it really is a simple process.
Whilton, and Jon, were truly fab, as buyers go I imagine we weren’t the most straight forward, and my worried nature meant a lot of double checking and undoubtedly daft questions. All of which was met with a smile and a feeling of not being able to do enough to help you.
So if you are interested in boats, want to buy a boat or even don’t want to buy a boat, go and see these guys they’ll sell you an awesome boat, and are super-all-questions-answered-heroes.Thank you Jon and Whilton!
James & Kirsty'

June 2016 - A very kind email from a customer who came to view boats at our marina, but didn't buy after deciding that living on a narrowboat was not for her.
"To the sales team,
I visited your marina last month to view a few narrow boats with the view to buy one. There were none that appealed to me but I have enjoyed looking at the boats that have become available online.
I have decided against the idea of living on a boat as the lack of storage space would not be suitable for my style of living.
Thanks you for your warm welcome and profesional attention when I visited this lovely marina. I have unsubscribed from your mailing list as of now.
I wish you well in your future sales and hope you have a very busy summer season"

26 April 2016 - From Eddie and Judy Stocker who bough Narrowboat Fitou
Just a note of confidence in your sales system. You may remember that we bought from you (through you) back in November last year. Yesterday I looked on your boats for sale section and noticed that you recently sold Narrowboat Presque La, we looked at that boat last year when it was for sale via another sales organisation. Your advert for it was much more straight to the point and avoided all of the flowery bits regarding gadgets and gismo's like remote controlled steering and specialised hull paint with a 10 year guarantee. We had to book an appointment to go and see the boat in the marina where it was kept, also the guide appointed to accompany us during our viewing, was certainly not a salesman "quite the opposite"
Anyhow, at the time we felt that it was a bit overpriced for what it was, hence not going for it. But seeing it now on your site (and it couldn't have been for long) and sold, just goes to show that Whilton Marina have got the strategy right. We do have a gander around on the site from time to time, hence how we know that Presque La couldn't have been with you for long. "Good on yer , Team"
Anyhow Fitou is working well, keep up the good work, hope you are all keeping well.
Eddie and Judy Stocker.

customer feedback from a customer looking to purchase a narrow boat
I would like to thank you for all your help both in advice and allowing my wife and I to look at several boats. We are not quite ready to purchase the boat we desire but this did not stop you from being so nice and helpful.
It is a real pleasant surprise to receive such good customer service, no hard sell, no pressure, just genuine interest in giving a good service to potential customers not just those with a pocket full of cash.....10 out of 10 for you guys.
I always look at your mailing list to see what is available.
Again many thanks

"Can you please add the following comment to your Buyers’ Customer Feedback page: We would like to congratulate Whilton Marina on this post-purchase service we received. We purchased a used boat through Whilton Marina in November last year. Since the sale went through, we suffered a couple of problems, firstly with a battery and then with the engine. We would like to say that we were extremely pleased with the service we received from the engineer, Mark, sent out from Whilton. On his first visit, he replaced a battery for us which corrected the problems we were having and he also provided us with a fair amount of advice and answers to queries that had caused us some consternation since the purchase as we were novices in the world of narrow boating. On his second visit, he spent a considerable amount of time (in very cold weather I might add) searching for the problem in connection with the engine. He returned to the marina to research the problem and returned to our boat in a couple of days with the answer that solved the problem. We found him to be very dedicated to his work and very helpful in his answers to our questions. We were most impressed with both his knowledge and his willingness to take the time to share this knowledge with us"
For Customer Feedback 2012 and before see below:
July 2012 - Customer Feedback from New Narrow boat Owner Sheila Abrams
My son, Richard Kruller, has brought a boat from you - Steadfast - and yesterday we came to give it a clean, fill it with diesel and add a few basics.
Every one of the people we came into contact with at the marina greeted us with a smile, were pleasant and helpful. It made a huge difference to the day.
But one person above all shone out: Keith from the workshop. We apologise for taking so much of his day, but we were extremely greatful for his sensible advice and practical help - all delivered cheerfully. He made a massive difference, and I think his advice will continue to make a difference in the years ahead.
Steadfast is not a prestigious boat (though we're pleased with her), but it's very good to see that, no matter how much or little is spent on the boat, your after sales service is excellent.
Ps - apologies for this being sent from my work e-mail, as my internet connection at home has failed. My home e-mail is [this has been blocked out]

I would also like to apologise for not going in and thanking all personally, as I was stuck because of the ice for two weeks and I was excited to get on my way.
Thank you for your kind words as you ran past me just as I was about to reach Braunston.

To Everyone at Whilton Marina,
Thank you all very much for all the help and support you have given us both. From the four years of searching to completion of the purchase of narrowboat 'Maltese Beauty' we love our new home, and hopefully she will give us years of happy cruising, once we navigate out of the marina!'
Dave and Bev Welsby, Walsall, West Midlands
Firstly, may I say what a pleasure it has been doing business with Whilton in relation to buying the above narrow boat, which is my first one, so a difficult process. All of the staff have been so friendly and would mention specifically Claire and Adrian at Wigram where we first saw the boat. You have all made buying the boat that much easier and I commend you all on your professionalism and helpfullness.
I am sure it will not be my last dealing with Whilton and you have made my first ownership so far, a pleasing experience, thank you all.

I would like to thank Tony for all his hard work and patience with me on Sunday, as he explained the working of the boat, I am fairly new to the world of narrow boats and making a life style change, he went through all the working of the boat and answered my many questions, making me feel comfortable and that nothing was too much trouble, I work in retail and understand the importance of good customer service and his was excellent very natural, I am looking forward to working with your company over the next few weeks as we finalise my purchase of the boat.
Once again than you

I have now purchased a boat and therefore, will not need further information on boat sales. Thank you for continuing to send information,it has been most useful. Although I have not purchased from you I must congratulate your team on their friendly approach, sharing information and advice over a number of months. During the last months searching for a boat has meant visiting a number of marinas and I have to say yours was by far the most friendly and approachable.
Thank you again.

Just a quick note to advise you that our narrowboat has performed faultlessly over the last 4 days and is now permanently moored at Thrupp Wharf. Many thanks for all your assistance to a narrowboat newbie, and I would certainly recommend you to anybody wanting good VFM in the purchase of a boat. I expect to replace this narrowboat within 5 years, and will certainly bear you in mind when looking for her replacement.

We both wish to thank you and Clare at Wigrams and all the sales and engineering staff at Whilton Marina for your friendly service with the purchase of our narrowboat.
From our initial viewing, when Rob pointed out the recent work done, to the sale with deal with you, the assistance at Whilton when we gave it a coat of blacking on the slipway to the work carried out by the engineers to put right the survey defects, the service has been outstanding. Despite the friendly banter!
