Engine Room, Painted Castle & Roses

The Boatman's Cabin was traditionally the living accommodation area of the working boat. It was where the family cooked, eat, slept and stored all their possessions. It would often be painted with roses and castles. Nowadays some traditional style narrowboats are built with replica boatmans cabins.
